Spelling Homework Guidelines
Monday - 3x each written vertically
Tuesday* - Write sentences for words 1-8
Wednesday* - Write sentences for words 9-15
Thursday - ABC order and study for test
*Sentences should be at least 5 words long, vary in subject (do not repeat the beginning of the sentence), and should have at least 2 question sentences.
**Tests are always given on Friday (or Thursday if there is no school on the Friday of that week). There are still spelling words and a test during a 4 day school week, but not during a 3 day week.
**Spelling tests will have a total of 20 words - the other 5 will be from either - 1) the high frequency word list that is part of our reading series or 2) previous spelling word lists (or a combination of the 2). These other 5 will not be given ahead of time.
**OPTIONAL JUMPSTART - On Friday, you will receive the spelling words for the following week. As weeknights can be left with very time for homework, I give you the option of taking some time over the weekend to complete or just get a jumpstart on the week's spelling assignments. Unlike math or grammar, spelling can be completed independent of a direct lesson. You may skip around (complete the sentences, but leave the 3x each for Monday), do a few sentences for each day so you have fewer to write over the course of the week...or get it all done! Schedules get crazy so it's an option that is available should the need or want arise. It is optional!! Have a crazy weekend? Just wait for Monday.
